       Everyone knows that Julie Andrews can sing and dance and that she shines in musicals, whether live on stage or in the movies.  That doesn't necessarily mean she can act.  But she can.  Catch her in Victor/Victoria, the movie.  Victor/Victoria started as a Broadway musical, then transfromed to the silver screen.  This is not your typical Julie Andrews musical, however.  It is not anything like The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins.  It is a play or a movie with music included and Julie Andrews does the gender bender job of both Victor and Victoria as no one else could.  She is funny, glamorous and talented.  She is, of course, a musical star as well.  I have to say, though, that I was really peeved when Disney cast her as Mary Poppins.  Anyone who read the grand old children's book will remember the real Mary as a homely, curmudgeonly old dame that barely tolerated the children for which she served as nanny.  A spoonful of sugar, indeed.  What tripe.
