Nadia Comaneci

       Nadia Comaneci is poetry in motion.  She is by the far the best female gymnast ever to hit the Olympics.  Nadia was born in Romania in 1961 and took up gymnastic training at the age of seven with the famous coaches Bela and Marta Karolyi.  Comaneci was one of the very first students at their school in Romania.  The Karolyi's later defected to the United States and became famous for their gymnastic training and coaching in that country as well.  Nadia is known for her pure, clean gymnastic style and her rather icy, stoic demeanor on the floor.  In the summer Olympics  in Montreal in 1976, Nadia  scored the first ever 10.0 rating for any gymnast and went on to score six more perfect ratings.  Today she is an American citizen and takes a large part in the Special Olympics.
