       I am so glad Ms. Bronte is on the list - someone remembered her for her forward thinking and writing that hold up still even in this modern society.  I am speaking here of her briliant novel Jane Eyre.  Even if this included none of the social criticism it is rife with, it would still be a well-written fascinating story of a poor girl who makes good my hard work and perserverence.  This is no Horation Alger tale, however.  It describes the immobile social strata of England at the time and how one strong woman with no resources but her guts and determination managed to crumble the barriers at least for herself.
