Consider
the opening words to Burnt Out Case by Graham Greene. (I paraphrase) - I am in pain, I must be
alive. Pure Green. He then goes on to tell the tale of life in a leper colony.
This novel is typical of Graham Green's dark side. No
matter, he never wrote a novel that wasn't beautifully written and interesting. The Third Man was one of
his books later made into a movie. Unbelievably , the translation of this fine book into a movie was a
huge critical and audience success, certainly due to the author but also to the casting of Orson Welles.
He did write at least one novel on the light side Travels with My Aunt that chronicles his journey with his
eccentric Aunt with much humor.
