James
Joyce, born on February 2nd 1882, did not write three novels, a collection of short stories, one play, and
multible poems, without much though behind them all. The relationships between all these stories is the key
factor into understanding most of Joyce's work, which many claim to be the most difficult in the English
language. So it can also be said, that James Joyce wrote on fantastic work, just seperated between covers and
book shelves. Being a key figure in the modernist movement, he perfected the stream-of-conciousness style that
was popular at the time. (See chapter three of Ulysses to see the style at it's greatest). His Irish pride, in
contrast to his self exile from the emerald isle, it very apparent in all his works, as they for the most part
take place in Dublin.
