       Hugo was a prolific writer but to us his best known works are Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  I still can't decide which one I liked better, but I am sure that his writing and the tales he told in these two books utterly captivated me.  They are both substantial tomes and I can't remember putting either of them down for very long.  Hugo includes so much of the Parisian atmosphere of the 19th century and such wonderfully drawn characters in both books, though on totally different subjects, you would think one would stand out more than the other.  I enjoyed the films equally as well, but what's not to like about Charles Laughton in a Victor Hugo film?
