       i remember reading this book to my daughter when she was about three years old right before I put her to bed.  The thought that the moon was there and all the characters in the book that were somehow part of her life as well were very comforting to her.  Just because I read it to her as barely post toddler age, doesn't mean that it wouldn't be great for much older children as well.  She read it herself when she was just a little older.  It is beautifully written and is a terrific tool to encourage youngsters to read more, imagine more and feel comfortable wherever they are and whatever they do.  Actually, I should give it another read.
