The Little House Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder

These books
were basically historical novels for children to help them learn about the history of the westward expansion in the
United States in the 19th century. It informs the young reader in an entertaining way as to what life was
like on the prairie in very rural America 200 or so years ago. The series concerns a family that moved west,
like so many others, to settle unknown territory that they could call their own. It is unclear just how much
they were informed of the dangers of being a lone family in the middle of nowhere, but nevertheless these early
pioneers were brave adventurers. The Little House Books tell the tale of a family and the joys and triumphs
while living in what was then the no-mans-land of the mid west prairies and tells it from the viewpoint of a young
girl. These books should be recommended reading for every elementary school child even today. They are
great history and also motivators for the kids to delve into history as pleasure not toil.
