Christopher Columbus

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Columbus was a murderer, rapist, thief and worse.  He came to a land that was not his own and took whatever he wanted.  He killed the people or forced them into slavery.  Ask the native americans of that time how they feel about columbus.  Oh wait, you can't.  He killed them.

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Christopher was an adventurous and daring explorer in the late 15th century.  However, he did not discover America, the feat he is most famous for.  When he got to the islands of the West Indies, he thought he might be in America, but even so, he found native people there.  The indiginous folks were obviously there first.  Whether they were the original settlers of the islands is unknown.  If Columbus had made  his way to America,  he would have found, guess what!  other native peoples of that land.  Where did these people come from?  It's still up to various theories, none of which have been proven.  Christopher Colombus was a brave, intelligent navigator who began a series of explorers and explorations to the new world.  That what he should be remembered for.
