Elvis Presley

       As a major fan of The King, I am most gratified that someone thought to nominate Elvis for the 100 best historical figures list.  Most people thing of lmilitary geniuses when they think of historical greats, like Hannibal, Caesar, Generals Lee and Grant or inventors such as Guttenberg.  But Elvis Presley is very much a historical figure.  Without him, Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll would remain in the domain of black singers and audiences, and would have taken eons to spread to the mainstream white fans with their Pat Boones and Frankie Avalons.   The recording industry and popular music would have been forever altered (and limited) without The KIng.  I still love his music and miss him.  He would be relevant today.  Maybe that's the measure of a true historical figure.
