100 Greatest Historical Figures

Ugh.  Just as I expected.  On this board, we will see two types of commenters.  On one hand, we have the uptight religious freaks who say that Jesus not being ranked number 1 is heresy.  On the other hand, we have those dead set against any religious affilliation who contend that Jesus should not be on this list.  Now, the religious freaks need to understand that there are other forms of belief, and not everything in the world revolves around them.  On the same token, however, I am a Christian, and I believe completely in Jesus.  To the trolls on the other end of the spectrum who get that odd little thrill out of ripping on other peoples' religion, you are idiots.  The historical evidence supporting Jesus' existence is overwhelming.  Only a fool would deny it.  I'm not telling you to believe he was God, I'm telling you to get your heads out of your butts.  As for my point of view on the issue, I obviously believe that Jesus is the single most important historical figure.  That being said, I don't think he should be included on this list.  I find Jesus to be of a totally different kind of importance than the rest of the people on the list were.  And plus, having Jesus on the list merely strikes up heated debates.  At least with most everyone else, their history and impact on the world cannot be a subject of such debate.

100 Greatest Historical Figures

I would love to see the so called evidence that supports the existence of Jesus. There were more than 30 historians living in and around the time of Jesus and not one made mention of such a man that performed numerous miracles and ascended to the heavens for all the world to see. The only documentation we have is the bible itself.

100 Greatest Historical Figures

How on earth is Jesus Christ only 5th and not 1st? It just shows how Americanised the internet is with Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, undeservedly taking the top two spots.

Firstly to all those who believe that Jesus didn't exist because of lack of evidence, are confusing your own lack of evidence with actual lack of evidence. Ask any historian who studied that era wherever Jesus lived or not and they will tell you he did. But wait, you haven't done that, have you? You're just basing your beliefs on a bizzare urban myth, believed by hardly anyone who has actually studied the matter.

Jesus is the most important historical figure of all time and this is not a question of faith. Billions of people have followed and practiced his teachings, Western law is built upon his doctrine, wars have been fought in his name (although, not as many as that other widely believed myth of "religions causes most wars", makes out). The effect Jesus has had on almost parts of the world cannot be understated.

But who beats him? Well Abraham Lincoln did unite a warring nation (not the only one mind) and set the ball rolling for the US to be the greatest nation on earth at this point in time, but Jesus has, and continues, to unite people from all nations. His impacts are far broader.

As for George Washington, well let's just say to call him a decent military commander would have been generous. A half hearted Britain would have won had it not been for the help of the French.

So basically Jesus not being number one is a farce.

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Contrary to one of my fellow reviewers, I do think that there is enough historical evidence to prove that there was some sort of weird, kind man running around trying to change the population of the region in which he lived (seemingly the middle east, a bunch of tribes, ruled by the Romans) into better human beings.  I am not a follower of  Jesus, not a Christian, but the facts seem to support  that he existed and had a message to better the way one human being treats another.  The words of the Bible are fictional and made up.  If you are interestesd in the life of the man known today as Jesus, read the Roman historians, who for the most part recorded the history of the time.  I say for the most part, because in those ancient times, history was handed down by generational word of mouth as there were no printed material.  There is, however ,a lot of corraboration of  different histories from different parts of the world to sustain a historical event of the life and teachings of Jesus.  This is not the mystical Jesus, but the history that  such a man probably did live and may have been on an evolutionary scale of civilization slightly above the rest of the population.  Or not.

@ King James.  Lucky for you that Jesus will forgive you.  I hope you find your way.

Isn't this supposed to be an actual list of real people?  Why is Jesus on here?  Are fictional characters included as well?  If so I would like to nominate Mr. Potato Head and Count Chocula as possible candidates.
