Malcolm X

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Malcolm X spoke against racism while managing to be one of the biggest racists in history.  Amazing the crap that people will eat up if they are hungry enough.  Definitely not a great man.

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Depending on how you look at him, Malcolm X was either the best thing to happen to racial considerations in America or the worst.  Malcolm X fought against racism on every level, was a civil rights activist and minister and a gifted speaker who fought for his people, black Americans.  On the other hand, one could view him as a racist antagonist, a black supremicist and a man who advocated violence to get what his race deserved in the United States.  Malcoml X grew up in foster homes after the death of his father and his mother committed to an insane asylum when he was 13.  He himself was sent to prison for 8 years after being caught in one criminal escapade after not being caught for several capers before that one.  In prison, he formed the Nation of Islam, which was a militant organization for the furtherance of black people around the globe, especially in muslim countries in the middle east and in Africa.  Whatever side you are on when it comes to Malcolm X, he was instrumental in bringing the plight of prejudice because of differences in skin color for an entire race or for religion regardless of race to the forefront of people's minds around the globe.  Malcolm X was assassinated for his views speaking before a gathering in Manhattan at a conference involving The Organization of African-American Unity.
