Ronald Reagan

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Ronald Reagan had quite a life.  He was born in the midwest in a small town in Illinois where he played football and was known as "Dutch."  After graduating from Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois, he went on to Iowa where he was a radio broadcaster.  He moved to Los Angeles to further that career and became a movie actor before going into television a few years later.. One of his most notable roles was as Knute Rockne in "Knute Rockne,  All American ." He apparently had a gift for politics as he became the president of the Screen Actors Guild and the spokesman for General Electric, two roles which would normally take years to achieve.  Ronald Reagan ran successfully for Governor of California in 1968 and then again in 1970.  He then, of course, became President of the United States in 1980, again not bad for a so-so actor from a small town in Illinois.  I do not share his political beliefs but many people did.  What I do find appealing about him is his wonderful sense of humor and his actor's skill at delivering lines, whether funny or not.  I have also come to know that he cared a great deal about his country.  We can always use that quality in our politicians.  It is so rare.

Great actor, even better President.  The only drawback to Reagan is that maybe he made Arnold think that actors should go into politics.  Good choice for the list.
