Thomas Edison

100 Greatest Historical Figures

Thomas Edison was an American  scientist, inventor and business man who lived from the mid 1800's to the mid-1900's.  His long life was devoted to scientific inventions that changed the world forever.  Thomas Edison invented the phonograph which gave music to everyone, the motion picture camera which game movies to everyone, and probably most important of all, the electric light bulb which lit tup he night for everyone.  The light bulb may have been his most life-changing invention, but most of us would have a hard time living without music movies and television and all the future inventions to which the  phonograph and movie camera gave a  mighty head start.   Edison is well known for the above inventions, but it is easly forgotten that he was also the father of mass production, making consumer goods available everywhere to just about everyone on the planet.  A modern-day genius indeed.
