Winston Churchill

100 Greatest Historical Figures

There is no doubt that Winston Churchill was one of England's greatest Prime Minister and was so in the turbulent time of World War II.  Sir Winston proved himself to be a great leader - able to rally the British citizens around him to continue a bloody battle to the finish so as to not fall under the rule of Germany,  a very distinct possibility at the time.  I love him for his humor.  Like this little exchange at a dinner party (Sir Winston was NOT a teetotalaer):  The lady sitting next to him told him that he was a drunk.  Winnie turned to her and said "Yes, madam, but you are ugly and tomorrow I'll be sober."  Right on, Winnie!  It is also said that all newborns resemble Winston Churchill.  That may be true.  What I know to be true is he definitely resembles my next door neighbors adorable pugs.
