Paper

100 Greatest Inventions of all Time Divider

The invention is right up there with the invention of the printing press.  After all, you can't run a printing press to print on stone tablets.  It is interesting to ponder how anyone could have dreamed up the concept that mashing a bunch of wood together could possibly produce a thin sheet that you can put whatever writing figures were in use at the time on it to form a story or a message.  The invention of paper is credited to the Chines, there would be no Kindle, no newspapers, no magazines and no modern currency.  A really cool invention when you think about it.  Hey there wouldn't be Chinese take-out boxes or something to hold popcorn in movie theaters and no tiolet paper.
