Federico Fellini

Frederico
Fellini and his films were so much a part of the sixties, I can't imagine them being in any other era. We
were questioning the hypocrisy of the fifties, the cold war tensions, the policies of isolationism and
chauvinism. Not to mention capitalistic greed at the expense of everything else and the bourgeois practice of
monogamy. It was a time to throw of your old tired ethics and breathe again. That's what Fellini's
films were speaking to. "La Dolce Vida" explored these principles and found many of them lacking
in the end. "8 1/2" explored them but in one man's mind, not all of society's. It was also a time when
the movie going audiences were ready to let foreign films into their consciousness and explore other ways of doing
things cinematically and in other languages. Frederico Fellini was there when we needed him and he gave us
some lasting treats.
