"Cool Hand Luke" played to perfection by Paul Newman is a man who digs deep into his
personal resources to make a bad situation (prison inmate) tolerable. He manages to do this not only for
himself for but his fellow inmates as well. The story takes place in a prison in the American south, not a
maximum security prison, but a prison nonetheless. The wardens are your typical petty bureaucratics out to
teach their prisoners the rules as they see them. Luke didn't see them that way at all. His antics from
the egg eating contest to his final statement "What we have here is a failure to communicate" were pure Cool Hand
Luke ( and Paul Newman) at his finest.
