The full name
of this exceptional film is "Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb." From
this, one can tell that it is not your usual military movie. The cast with Peter Sellers, Keenan Wynn,
Sterling Hayden and Slim Pickens may also tip you off that this is a movie with an acerbic edge. Since
Stanley Kubric directed the gang, you can be sure you are in for an entertaining couple of hours. The
plot concerns a paranoid general, name of Ripper (of course) played by Sterling Hayden, who is convinced that
the Soviets have polluted the American waters and therefore requires that he push the nuke button. The rest
of this satirical spoof on the military of all nations is about how the other military -involved persons go about
keeping him from pushing that all-important button. But first, of course they must get the "code" and
decipher it. To further entice you to rent this film anyway you can, some of the other names of the cast
besides Hayden as General Ripper are Keenan Wynn playing Colonel "Bat" Guano and George C. Scott (yes, General
Patton) playing General "Buck" Turgidson. This movie has been fondly remembered by it's audience (me
included) for almost 50 years.
