Platoon was
the most true to life war tale coming out of the Vietnamese war. No, I wasn't there, but my friend who was an
army captain in that war swears that it's true. From the opening scene where dead soldiers in body bags are
being loaded into the same plane as a new soldier is arriving on, to the tension among the enlisted men and
officers, Oliver Stone's take on the Vietnam war is not only authentic but fascinating. There is clearly
nothing pretty about war and this semi-documentary emphasizes the point. The Vietnamese villagers are very
much a part of the movie illustrating to the audience that civfilians are involved in wars as well as the
soldiers. Not something war movies generally want to consider.
