       If all Duke Ellington ever did was to write "Sophisticated Lady" I would have put him on the best 100 list.  That song evokes so much in the way of visuals, dreams, what could have been, if only, etc. that every time I hear it I make movies in my head.  The Duke was a composer, pianist, and a big band leader .  Duke Ellington was most prominent in the area of jazz music, but his range was wide and went into blues, gospel, film scores and popular and classical music.  He elevated the status of jazz and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize as a posthumous honor in 1999.
