       The Beach Boys and I grew up together in Southern California.  I surfed and they got onto that and wrote some quintessential surfing songs as well as some other more profound tunes.  Tunes such as In My Room, Don't Worry Baby and God Only Knows.  Their harmony was second to none.  The Beach Boys consisted mostly of relatives - brothers and cousins.  Dennis, Carl and Brian Wilson and Mike Love.  They wrote the songs as well as harmonizing them.  Dennis Wilson was the only Beach Boy that actually surfed.  The others thought it would be cool to write songs about the sport and the surfing cult that was forming quickly around Southern California shores.  Tragically Dennis Wilson died in 1983 at age 39 by drowning after a day of consuming great quantities of alcohol as was his usual habit.  The others live on but no longer record together.  When they were together performing, they were the biggest thing in popular music, rivaling the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and just about every other band on the scene at the time.
