" I am the
Lizard King, I can do anything. " ~ Celebration of the Lizard
A quote that
would forever entitle the vocalist of the- probably most strangest- American band ever, Jim Morrison. The Doors
were just a new boundary opening up. One- being that The Doors were one of few American bands at the time, and Two-
of it's lyrics. Unlike the Beatles, the Door's songs were much more quieter, stranger, and somewhat more emotional.
A lot of their songs gave much meaning, most of which were life experiences from Morrison
himself.
The Doors are
a band that can never resurrect. It's the sheer uniqueness this band had. John Densmore, the drummer, had an
unpredictable nature for his drums, making him the supposed beat of the Doors. Robby never used a pick as far as I
know throughout the Doors. Robby Krieger was a unique guitarist, using his bare fingers and the occasional
bottleneck guitar. Ray Manzarek, who isn't as appreciated as the others, or at least not as praised, was strange.
Due to the band's lack of a base player, Ray played both keyboards and Bass on two separate keyboards. What a mind
and what a great keyboardist, but most of all, the strange " shaman " essence of Jim Morrison. Jim Morrison, almost
always drunk or stoned, had done the most strangest acts live on stage, that drew people in. Not every song, but a
majority of them would feature him on the ground, dancing around, sexual antics, and just mingling with the
fans.
Morrison said
himself, he doesn't sing, he Screams, and can be bested hearing a lot his songs. Unlike Krieger, Morrison didn't
have much of a successful song. Morrison's poetry and lyrics tend to focus on more than one thing. Songs like, "
When the Music's Over, The End, Riders of the Storm, etc. " Never really focused on one focus. Morrison often
expanded the songs into somewhat a story. " The End, " being a prime example. Those that did focus on a target,
were successful. Songs such as " L.A. Woman, Hello I Love You, Break on Through ( To the Other Side. ), " and a few
others were big hits.
The Doors
were known to have a strange sound in their music, strange- which at the time, no one ever heard of. Keep in mind,
people were much more familiar with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Elvis, so to the
math. The Door's psychedelic music to the " happy go-merry " music of the Beatles. The Doors were almost like the
Jimi Hendrix Experience, however Hendrix never really focused on the dark side of life, unlike the Doors. A good
example of such, " People are Strange. "
Like most
poets, Morrison was never afraid to speak his mind. Whether he took it as a joke, or was too drunk to know what he
was saying, or just frustrated, Morrison would tell the world what he was thinking- but never what he was truley
thinking. Manzarek had a nick name for Morrison when he was on stage. " Jimbo. " Jim was just his normal feature,
but on stage, or just simply smashed on drugs or alcohol, it would be Jimbo.
The Doors had
a short, but traveling tale of bands that don't have that today. The Doors were at the right time at the right
place. When the Death of Jim Morrison happened in 1972, everyone knew it was over.
My favorite
song, and my " life " song by the Doors is from the album, " The Soft Parade, " the song I love and sing mostly
every day I try, the song of which the album is named after, " The Soft Parade " is indeed my favourite song.
They're others, such as " Love Street, Spanish Caravan, and Orange County Suite, " that I love, but nothing
can change my fact that " The Soft Parade " is my favorite song. As Album, I would say " Waiting for the Sun.
"
The Doors
will continue to have a legacy, and have a curious part of music of that era that musicians today drive on. One- to
imitate the antics of Morrison, and Two, to make the strange music to capture the audience.
The Doors.. are
infinite..

"If the doors
of perception were cleansed, every thing would appear to man as it is: infinite."
And that quote was how Jim Morrison viewed the world. Infinite. The Doors were a very moving, inspirational, and
interesting music group. The lead singer Jim Morrison, being a special component of the band's take on the rock n'
roll, and bohemian style.
The band was formed by Ray Manzerek, and Jim Morrison, two UCLA film student
college friends. Jim Morrison lead a bohemian lifestyle, writing poetry, reading voraciously, and and having been
just one of the people moved by the Beat generation. While, Ray Manzerek being a keybaordist in a band with his
brother. When the two reunited on Venice beach, California, Jim read some of his poems, and songs, and then The
Doors were formed.
The two then found drummer John Densmore, and a guitarist Robby Krieger. Their
first rehersals were awkward, but when Robby pulled out a song he wrote, (Light my Fire), that sparked the
fire and the Doors took off. Playing at clubs and bars, (The Whiskey a Go-Go being their main stage) they were
being offered to get recorded.
Soon, there poularity kicked in with their first album, The Doors. And after
that evrything went uphill. They were becoming more famous, Jim, at live performances, would act very rowdy and
often times, would get pulled offstage by local authorities, and their song were becoming- if you's say- stranger.
But nobody who ever liked them in the first place, disliked them in their later years. The band just kept on going.
But when Jim's untimely death at age 27, on July 3rd, 1971 occured, the band stopped and The Doors were over.
But, The Doors are an everlasting band in the history of rock n' roll, and
they will always be remembered. They changed the outlook on the world and influenced many things. They will, in my
perspective, be one of the greatest bands of all time.
