Guns, Germs and Steel

Reviews of Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond

This is a thought
provoking book about how civilizations came to be, how they met their downfall and why. He gets the
reader thinking with such statements like the bubonic plague was somewhat Darwinian in that those few that survived
the scourge were the most fit of all among the cities of Europe it devastated. They, being the strongest
were able to reap the rewards of the ample resources now available. Now that the population was
decimated, there was more for those remaining who went on reproduced strong offspring and thrived. And that's
just the "Germs" part. The guns and steel parts of this historical recounter are just as fascinating if not a
tad more obvious. He who has the most and the best weaponry wins the war and he who is capable of building
steel mills to produce necessary commodities (and guns) in massive quantities quickly and cheaply will win the
economic war.
