In Cold Blood
By Truman Capote
Review of In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

Truman Capote
by this book proved that he is not just a superb novelist but a superb journalist. The fact that "In Cold
Blood" is non-fiction is chilling enough. That it was written with such attention to detail and with such
seeming detachment adds to the iciness of the crime report. The truth is Mr. Capote was not all that detached
from the killers, although he certainly tried to distance himself. The book is essentially about two young
male killers who slay an entire family in Kansas. A family they do not know, have no grudge against, no
feelings whatsoever about dead or alive, and no reason to kill them. Truman Capote kept in touch with the two
perpetrators through their capture, trial, imprisonment on death row and was present at their executions. He
vowed he would never write such a book again. He didn't.

Stunning book
from start to end. Autumnal in its atmosphere and so sad, even though author Capote writes with a journalist's
edge, he writes clearly and fine.
