To Daniel in the last review, at least this
book was better than The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway. In this book at least something happened and I almost
cared enough to cry in the end. But yes I agree not great for me either. 3 out of 5.

Colorless, lifeless, plodding, tedious--HOW did
this book ever attain the status of a "great" novel? An incredible disapointment.

This book must have been scandalous in its
time. The affair of the main character has unexpected results and his political views of the war are
spot on (in my opinion). Vivid descriptions of the landscape make you feel as though you're
there. Although at times a slow read, it, in general, keeps your interest throughout the plot.
I'm very happy to have read this book and think it is most deserving of it's place on this list.
