      The most excellent book i've ever read. the way he reveals the thoughts of a soldier and how they are different from common people's thoughts is brilliant. death, lost and departing are made nothing for them throughout their career. but still they are human beings just as anyone else.  what is the most pathetic is that they are jusy young boys of 20.  nicely written. believe this to be the all time greatest (anti-) war novel.

      This book is truly eye opening. It is an amazing read. It's one of my favorites among many many greats. You can see how going through those experiences can desencitize a person and strip them of their humanity.

      After picking up this book cheap in a used paperback store, I was so addicted from page 1 that I read it in three days. This World War I novel is told from the "enemy" perspective of a German soldier. You quickly learn that no matter how the media and government portrays the beligerants in a war, that they have the same hopes, dreams, fears and desires as the opposing soldiers. This book is a first-hand account of the absolute horrors of 'The Great War' and will burn certain ghastly images into your head, beware. this book is #1 on my all-time list.

      Great book.   Sad to see the main character's freinds die off one by one....and then the shocker at the VERY end.   It teaches you that war sucks if nothing else.
