       I was enthralled to discover Atonement on the 100 best novels ever written list. Ian McEwan is a true artist. If anyone paints pictures with words he is the man. I am not sure if I have read a more poetic sounding novel. Other that the astounding quality of McEwan's writing the plot itself is intriguing and layered. This novel is not only a romance novel, but also a war tale. It puts emphasis the coming of age, guilt, and forgiveness. The characters are as colorful and realistic as you and me. This heartbreaking tale of star-crossed lovers is a true classic and would not surprise me in the least if high-schoolers in the future read this work of art. In my personal opinion, this novel is of literary merit and I can not wait to read more works by Ian McEwan.
