Jane Eyre is an
incredible novel -- it has moments of high melodrama that may seem over-the-top for some readers, but it is
full of an incredible passion and energy.
The center of the book and
the reason for its greatness is the character of Jane. I have seldom in all my reading experiences come
across a character that has seemed so intenslely ALIVE! Jane simply jumps off the page into life.
There may be moments in the book when I question the plot but never for one moment do I doubt the reality of
Jane herself.
Besides an exciting story and
a fierce and yet quiet heroine, there is the amazing insistence of our author and of Jane herself that the
thoughts and most especially the feelings of an unwanted child and then of a mere governess (both Jane) are
of real consequence. A woman should be considered as worthy the center of a novel as a man. And
the question of finding her place and happiness in the world is as weighty a matter as whether Odysseus will
return home or Hamlet will get vengeance for his father. This is truly a revolutionary tale of a
woman's rightful place at the center rather than the periphery of a story.
I recommend the book to any
lover of romance, any lover of character, or any lover of the women's movement.
As a man, I
find Jane a breathtaking and unforgettable character in a very great novel.

I loved reading this novel. Although the readying wasnt easy for me as
English is my second language and I have struggled with some of the words, in the end it was definitely worth
it.
At times it was slow and the author was narrating lots of details however
there are not many chapters like that.
It was however the last chapters of the book when I became totally captured
in the story and couldnt put it down.
There were few scenes where I didnt understand Jane Eyres actions however she
has such a beautiful, strong and sincere character it is impossible not to sympathize with
her.
If you love readying love stories then I would recommend reading this book ;

"Its a story about Jane, a simple girl who goes through a traumatic childhood
but still strives to get knowledge and education through her perseverance and her little known friend and
teachers. She ultimately finds her dream job as a governess and went on to fall in love with the Master of
the house. A simple love story woven into delicate twist and turns. You sympathise with the characters of the
novel and their challenges in life. I Immensely loved this book. 2006 Drama based on this novel is enjoyable
although it deviates from the story here and there but the central characters are a treat to watch. Thumbs up
all the way!".

This book is positively faultless. The love between Jane and Rochester is
deeply romantic and compelling. I finished this book months ago and I haven't stopped thinking about it.
Bronte writes with deep emotion that you sympathize wtih the pain Jane endures and cheer on the challenged
love between her and Rochester. This book has quickly become my favorite book of all time and I can't wait to
read it again.

Good read. I love the story. I am not a fan of some of those old English
books so I was a bit weary about reading this, but it turns out that I really liked this one. I would
recommend it for a nice easy read.

It was first offered to me by a shopkeeper as the most read novel by
teenagers. I've read this novel 4 times and the more I read, the more I wanted to read it again though I'm
not a teenager any more at the moment. To admit, the love between Jane and Rochester was unbelieveble but it
let me forget everything else except them.the whole scenes were fantastically and accurately described and
you could understand the heroine deeply.

A simple story beautifully rendered with outstanding sensitivity. The only
criticism I would venture to make was that the conflagration scene was somewhat fanciful and lacked
credibility, but overall, a terrific read which expemplifies the literary novel.

I have to agree with Justine's review below. This is one of the most tedious
books I have ever read. While the character of Jane is fully realized and dynamic, the course of the novel
itself is rather less believable. The story may be about Jane's personal attempt to subvert a patriarchal
society dominated by a class structure, but the ending undermines this completely. Instead of Jane's
deep-seated morality bringing her to the life she has desired, it is instead circumstance that brings
Rochester (a contemptible and pathetic excuse for a human being) down to her level.

I spent years avoiding reading this book because I thought it was a drag. But
last year, my sister was studying a simplified version, and I love reading so I started reading it one day
while we were waiting for our dentist appointment. I loved it and the next day I went out and bought the
original. I absolutley love it and I would reccomend it to anyone. Yes, the begining is a bit slow but it
soon picks up speed and you can't help but fall in love with Jane. I reccomend this book to
anyone.

I've heard people talk about how depressing and horrible this novel is so I
stayed away from it. I'd also seen an old movie adaptation of this and thought it was horrible! Then i
decided to read - i found Mr Rochester to be fantastically dashing and funny as well as tortured. Jane was
not a 'plain Jane' but self-assured despite her issues. What can i say (I'm no Roger Ebert) - I loved
it!

We were offered a choice of four novels to study in English class. Knowing
that Jane Eyre is referred to as a classic and one of the "top one hundred books of all time" I decided to
read it. Most call the beginning slow, but I found the beginning to be the most interesting one hundred pages
of this tedious book. The formation of Jane's character was interesting. What she did with said character,
was not. I had no trouble with the language as I have read many Victorian novels, what I found boring was
Bronte's writing style. She would take alomost twenty pages to say what I could have said in one sentence.
And she would break the flow of a scene to address the audience (eg. "Dear reader, you've probably surmised
that I was upset"). It ruined passages in the novel that could have been considered decent. I did not find
the love of Jane and Mr. Rochester to be believable. Quite the opposite in fact. Their tender feelings seemed
forced. As if Bronte created two uncompatible characters and tried to fake her way through a romance. There
was no passagte which made my heart flutter. It is true that Charlotte Bronte is recognized for being the
first to write about a heroine as plain as the average woman, and for that brava. But while I can recognize
her accoplishment for woman, I can not call this dreary novel a classic.
