I love this novel. It teaches us how to realize our dreams, the the universe conspires to help us achieve it. Thanks Paulo Coelho for a great book you gave to the world.

I have started rating novels that I have read in the last 3 years, and with over 120 so far, The Alchemist has the lowest rating.  It is an exercise in story telling with a wandering plot and packed with more pseudo-religious philosophical mumbo-jumbo than anything I've read. Tedious and repetitive and even though it is a short book, it seemed much longer.

The Alchemist is a pretty short book, but it has lots of meanings. It's touching, and has many different meanings, based on the perception of the reader. It's very spiritual, and may go against some people's religious views, but all in all, it's a great book that I recommend.

The actual story of the book is very simple and straight forwards. More like, the book is about the thoughts and events, and the feelings that the main character, Santiago, perceives as he is on this erlatively "boring" journey. It's a journey to find himself, and finding a better treasure than what he initially set out for.

It's a touching story, and lots of insight, though some religious people may not like it. In my opinion, it is similar to Le Petit Prince, content and meaning wise. So if you like this kind of book, then I suggest you read it.
