The Master and Margarita
by Mikhail Bulgakov
Review of The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
The soviet union kept this book out of print.
The author should thank them for doing so. Its suppression is what gave it its fame. If it was printed
straight off it would have been just one of many mediocre books that never made it.

Truly a work of art. It may be more
difficult to understand for people who never lived in the USSR, but it still offers a lot. Even
ignoring all the Soviet stuff this book still offers a very interesting insite into the mindset of Pontius
Pilat as he sentenced Jesus to death. That was what Bulgakov was really trying to write about, the
things about the USSR was just to get the book past Soviet censorship (it was censored anyway, I
believe). The best book I ever read, right on par with "East of Eden".

It is a great book! But it is hard to read and
not very easy to understand because it is about the Soviet Union and its structure, how thimgs happened in
this country! And people who have never lived in Soviet Union will never understand this novel
100%.
