Judy Garland
owns the song Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz. The song is a classic whether associated with the 1939
movie production or completely disassociated from it. It is one of the most wistful songs ever written.
It's a song of hope when all hell is breaking loose around you in whatever form it takes. Judy Garland knows
what the song means more than any other singer who has sung it since. You don't have to watch her sing it,
you can hear it in her distinctive, beautiful voice. Moonriver, the theme song from the movie Breakfast at
Tiffanys has that same "someday, things will be better" theme. Unfortunately, Moonriver didn't have Judy
Garland to lend that special wistful quality. Not to say that Andy Williams didn't do it justice, he did. It
just isn't the same.
