All in the Family

One of the best sit coms ever to hit American television was, of course, from the
Brits. British comedy just seems to be funnier than everybody else's. Witness The Monty Python Flying
Circus, Peter Sellers, and those jovial gender benders, Eddie Izzard and Dame Edna. All in the family was
about hugely bigoted Archie Bunker - there was nothing for which he did not have a pre-judged opionion always ready
to regale upon anyone who would listen. But Archie wouldn't have been nearly as effective without wife Edith,
who was his polar opposite. She would give every thought, philosophy and deed a chance. Also vying
against Archie's narrow mind were his married daughter and son-in-law - two liberals to Archie's
arch-conservatism. All lived together in an old house in Queens, which fit the family to a tee. These
were decidedly blue collar people in a blue collar world. The writing, like the acting was always relevant
and superior. I want them back.
