Gilligan's Island

An unrealistic tale of a group of characters stranded on an island, Gilligan's Island
should be easily forgotten. Hardly. The cast of characters headed by Gilligan played by Dobie Gillis's
Maynerd Krebs, Bob Denver. Also included in the cast was the voluptuous Tina Louise (who is also a fine
actress - see her in "Gods Little Acre for a real treat), JIm Backus, who never played a part I didn't like and
Alan Hale Jr. The plot sounds silly and is, but the actors are so convincing, you forget about the lack of
reality. The plot concerns the lives on and off the island of the seven castaways and how they plot to escape
the little island they are stuck on. Whatever plot they dream up, Gilligan manages to screw up somehow and
they try again, only to meet with the same fate. The show debuted in 1964 and was orginially in black and
white which went on for 36 episodes. After that it was filmed in color and ran for a total of 93
episodes. Later the black and white episodes were colorized for syndication. The theme song from
the show "Gilligan's Isle" became as well known (or more so) than the program itself. All in all Gilligna's
Island is a treasure of early television.
