The Flintstones

As far as I recall, "The Flintstones" was the first serialized animated television
show with a regular cast of animated fictional human beings. It starred Fred, Wilma, and Pebbles Flintstone
and their pets Dino (a dinosaur) and Baby Puss (a sabre tooth tiger kitten). They were a stone age working
class family created by the cartoon greats Hanna-Barbera. The Flintstones harken back to "The Honeymooners"
that non-animated family show of blue collar folks starring Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. The Flintstones
had neighbors, the Rubbles, that played a large part in this animated sitcom as well. "The Flintstones" was
an animated stone age family show that was the precedent for modern fare such as "The Simpsons, " Family Guy," and
"King of the Hill." All are imaginative and owe thier spark to such early successes as "The Flintstones" and
"The Jetsons." "The Jetsons" was the antithesis of the stone age "Flintsones" being set in the far, far,
future rather than the far, far past.
