Venus de Milo
by Alexandros of Antioch

The world
famous sculpture the "Venus De Milo" was by the Greek sculpture Alexandros created around 100-130 B.C. It is
now in the Louvre in Paris. It is a fine example of what the ancient Green sculptures were so famous
for, the ladies magnificent proportions. Even though her arms are lost today, she remains remarkable for her
fine carving, posture and that beautiflly proportioned torso. If her arms were intact, the right one would
probably be crossed over her torso, resting on her raised left knee while the left arm woudl proablby be holding
something. The Venus De Milo was not meant to be only a torso, there are obvious traces of where the legs
would have been on the statue. Unfortunately, only the upper part of the statue was unearthed, and then it
was in two pieces. The Venus De Milo is slightly larger than life size.
